Arrests over fatal stabbing of teenager

From the Blackpool Citizen, first published Tuesday 22nd May 2007.

Detectives and support officers have returned to the Grange Park estate in Blackpool today to continue investigations into the death of 16-year-old Sam Brown who was stabbed in an incident in the early hours of Monday.

A post-mortem examination yesterday revealed Sam died from a single stab wound.

Today the man leading the inquiry, Detective Superintendent Graham Gardner, said a number of people have been arrested in connection with the incident and is urging people with information to get in touch with police.

"This is a complex inquiry and the full story as to what exactly happened in the early hours of yesterday morning on the Grange Park Estate has yet to emerge," said Mr Gardner.

"A number of people have been arrested though I expect they will be only part of the jigsaw. I am convinced the answers to this terrible murder lies on the estate itself. Sam had only just turned 16. I would urge anyone who can help with this inquiry to contact Blackpool police on 01253 293933."

The 28-year-old man who was stabbed in the same incident remains in hospital and is reported to be stable. He has not been named.
