From the The Bolton News, first published Tuesday 22nd May 2007.
IF ever a local band had been on the brink of success for an obscene amount of time, that band would be Our Fold.
But with singer Damien Riley just back from New York - where he was meeting with representatives of Universal and Columbia records - it looks like the band might find success Stateside before they do in their native Britain.
Damien told us: "We've just come back from New York, we had a meeting with Columbia records and they really like it. And we met with the guy from Universal at the top of the Sony building, they were really nice.
"The guy from Universal took us to watch the Noisettes, he seems really keen."
The band are also bidding for success back home as they have made the final 14 in the Road To V competition, which could see them taking to the stage at the prestigious festival.
Last week they played an official gig for the competition in Liverpool, and were interviewed by Channel 4's George Lamb. The finalists' journey to the festival will be broadcast by the station some time in the next few months.
Damien was confident before the gig, thanks to the presence of James Endeacott, the man who signed The View, on the judging panel. And after the gig, his confidence was undiminished: "I've got a good feeling about it, it went really well," he says.
The band play the Soundhouse this Friday, May 25, with The Drain Pipes, The Sound Explosion and Dirty Circus, who recently signed to Columbia at Nirvana cafe in Wigan.
But Damien is not worried that his band will be overshadowed - and with good reason. Our Fold might be local heroes, but it seems that before too long they will also be global stars.
