Housing cash plans unveiled

From the Lancashire Telegraph, first published Tuesday 22nd May 2007.

PLANS have been announced for the second instalment of redevelopment money earmarked for improving housing in Hyndburn.

Hyndburn Council has received £7.49m Housing Market Renewal money from Elevate for this financial year.

Plans are almost complete for the "Project Phoenix 1" site in West Accrington, which has been assembled with HMR funding. Demolition work has already commenced and new houses will be erected. These will have up to five bedrooms to reflect the area's diverse housing needs.

A planning application is due to be submitted by early summer.

Work will also begin on the adjacent "Project Phoenix 2" site, where houses are outmoded and in poor condition. Hyndburn Council will be acquiring more of these using the new HMR allocation.

These projects will provide much-needed housing choice to local people, as well as helping to attract a new and vibrant community to an area which has spent decades in decline.
