Free shuttle bus to link hospitals hits road

From the Lancashire Telegraph, first published Tuesday 22nd May 2007.

VISITORS and patients took advantage of the new free bus service between the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital.

The half-hourly bus service, which connects the two sprawling sites, was launched yesterday following a plea from patients and visitors.

The bus picks up from the main entrance at the Royal Blackburn, and Phase 5 entrance at Burnley General.

Another pick-up point has been arranged at the Prairie car park, Burnley, at the junction of Windermere Avenue and Colne Road.

It has been introduced in response to concerns after a number of services were transferred between the two sites, as part of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust's reorganisation.

Once the shuttle bus has been running for a few months, it will be reviewed to see if the right kind of vehicles, and frequency of services, are available.
